Review: TheBalm Nude’Tude Eyeshadow Palette

I purchased this palette a few months ago but I never actually really started using it until recently. I don’t know why I haven’t used it recently because it’s amazing!

dsc_0306TheBalm (in my opinion) make some of the best eyeshadows on the market. They are pigmented and easy to blend and the colours are just beautiful. I could go on forever but for now let’s focus on the colours in this palette.

dsc_0311

The first six shades (from the left) are all fairly light and perfect for a daytime look. I love using Snobby on my lid and Stubborn in my crease with a little bit of Sultry in my outer corner. I finish it off with Sassy on the inner corner, apply a coat of mascara and then my eye look is complete!

The last six colours are perfect for a night look and adding that extra bit of drama you might want. I usually use a pretty natural base like Naked from the Urban Decay Naked 1 and then add Seductive on top of that and apply Sexy in the outer corner and crease. I sometimes like to add winged liner (which I make Adrienne do since I can’t do eyeliner to save my life), add some mascara and you’re done!

What I love about this palette is you have your nudes and your darks so this is a very versatile palette and it isn’t bulky so it’s easy to through  in your makeup bag. I feel that this palette has a wide range of colours to use for a variety of looks and that you are getting a great quality product for a reasonable price.

This palette retails for $36.00 on TheBalm.com

September 2016 Monthly Favourites

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a favourites post but that’s because I haven’t had many favourites that were new between the months of June and August. However, September has seen a few new favourites that I’m excited to share with you! So without further ado, let’s get to it!

Sephora Haul + First Impressions

Recently I made my first Sephora order (crazy I know) and I have already fallen in love with every product I’ve ordered!

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks in Lolita and Bow N Arrow ($24.00 CAD)

I have raved about these liquid lipsticks before so it’s no surprise that they found their way into my basket. I feel like you can’t own one of Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks without owning Lolita so after very little debate with myself I added it to my basket and quickly feel in love with Bow N Arrow which also found itself in my basket before I even had time to think. I won’t go into a lot of detail about these because I’ve already talked about them in depth in this post but I can assure you that trying one of these is something you will not regret! I am a big fan of Kat Von D Beauty, especially since they are cruelty-free and never test on animals!

Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick in Queen B ($25.00 CAD)

I’ve wanted to try the Melted Lipsticks from Too Faced for a while so I decided to add one to my basket. My first impression of this product is that it’s a long wear liquid lipstick that is very pigmented however I found it left a sticky residue on my lips. It felt more like a gloss than a lipstick which threw me off a bit. However, the amount of compliments I got on the colour (plus how much I loved the colour myself) made it worth the price to me even though I’m still unsure whether or not I’ll be repurchasing this product in the future.

Edit: I wore this lipstick for a night out and to work and my entire view on this product has changed, I will certainly be purchasing again! There is very little transfer and the colour stay pigmented, even with eating and drinking!

Too Faced Love Flush Long-Lasting 16-Hour Blush in Your Love Is King ($32.00 CAD)

I honestly couldn’t believe I spent $32 on a blush but once I saw this blush in action, I realised I would have paid a lot more!I actually bought the wrong one, I meant to buy How Deep Is Your Love however I’m not even mad that I accidently ordering Your Love Is King  love this blush! The colour is perfect, it has amazing pigmentation and is easy to blend.

I also received 3 samples that I can’t wait to try!

Urban Decay NAKED ILLUMINATED Shimmering Powder for Face and Body in Aura ($35.00 CAD)

I didn’t order this from Sephora but was given it from a friend who felt the product just wasn’t for him. Originally I didn’t even pay much attention to the product itself, I focused more on the fact that I was getting an Urban Decay product (that I’ve wanted to try) for free! Now the actual product is full of shimmer which is to be expected from a shimmering powder and I won’t lie, I’m kind of in love with this! It’s perfect for that hint of shimmer for a night out!

Switching Go-To Brands

Have any of you ever been fully dedicated to a makeup brand that every time you need something you just go for that product? That’s how I felt about Covergirl concealer and pressed powder. It’s always worked well for me and it’s cheap enough for me to not hesitate to buy new essentials when I’m running low. I’m fairly certain it was the first brand I ever used for concealer and pressed powder and I never questioned it. That is, until my best friend showed me her favourite go-to brand.

Rose loves Physician’s Formula, and she’s been using it for years. When my Covergirl pressed powder ran out and it was time to buy a new one, I was heading straight for the Covergirl section when out of the corner of my eye I saw a large metalic blue portion of the wall named Physician’s Formula. I asked the retail ladies if they had any experience with the brand, and they said it was very good, and almost laughed when I told them that I had been using Covergirl up until then.

I ended up buying their pressed powder and concealer, knowing that my concealer was near the tail end of it’s life, as well. I took it home and started using both every day.

The women at the counter were right, it covers everything and evens out my face, but at a price. I broke out more than I ever have before, which results in me using more of these products at a time, and more face cleansers at night. It also cost more than Covergirl. Covergirl pressed powder is $7.97, while Physician’s Formula is $18.66. I remember that the concealer didn’t have much of a price difference, however I was unable to find the exact Physician’s Formula concealer stick, but the Covergirl concealer is $6.14.

While I’m using the products, they’re nice, and they do their job, however Covergirl is just as good. I’ll be making the switch back once my current makeup runs out. And if a lady behind a counter ever laughs at you because your makeup choice is “inferior”, who cares? Everyone’s face and skin is different, and prefers different brands. I’m sure many people love Physician’s Formula, and same for Covergirl. I know Rose would never change to Covergirl, but her skin is very different from mine.

So try new things, love and hate them, and in the end you’ll know what you and your skin like best.

Summer Essentials!

Summer is here and it seems to get hotter by the day so here are my summer essentials!

Sunscreen

I know what everyone is thinking “Obviously Michaela”but I can’t stress how important protect your skin from the UV Rays. I hate the feeling of sunscreen but once I found a sunscreen that smelt nice I found it didn’t bother me so much. My personal favourite is Sun Bum!

Pro Tip: If you burn easily (like I do) I suggest buying a bottle of aloe vera gel and keep it in the fridge or put it in ice cube trays to freeze, it feels amazing on burns!

BB Cream

Honestly BB Cream is the most important thing to me because in the summer I do not want to be wearing foundation so having a BB Cream makes it so I can even out my complexion but also be protected from the sun as most BB Creams have SPF in them! My BB Cream of choice for the past few summers has been the Rimmel London BB Cream in Light.

Oil Blotting Sheets

I won’t lie, I sweat a lot in the summer. I work in a summer program where we are outside more than we are inside so naturally in the 35 degree weather I’m going to need to blot my face. My 2 favourites are the Palladio Rice Paper Oil-Absorbing Blotting Tissues with rice powder and the Neutrogena Deep Clean Shine Control Blotting Sheets.

Setting Spray

With summer time comes open patios where you eat and drink and of course, sit in the sun so it’s necessary to have a setting spray in your life. During the winter I rarely set my makeup because it doesn’t go anywhere but in the summer I spray my face daily! My favourite setting spray to date is the NYX Matter Finish Long Lasting Setting Spray.

Face Masks

While face masks are a necessity all year round, I find myself reaching for them more in the summer time. I love the feeling of refreshed and clean skin and masks are the perfect way to achieve that. I’ve recently been loving the Life Brand masks from Shopper’s drug mart.

Deodorant:

I can’t stress this enough please wear deodorant. I’m not trying to be rude but it’s hot out and you are going to sweat, always have deodorant!

April 2016 Favourites

So looking back on past posts I’ve realized I never posted my favourites for the month of March (whoops) but I picked up a product or two that I’ve been loving for April so lets talk about those instead!

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation in Classic Ivory

Cos7941_1-Infallible-Pro-Matte-Foundation-Classic-Ivory

Ok at first I was a little iffy on this foundation, not going to lie. However after using it for the month of April it’s become a favourite of mine. I love the medium to build-able coverage and when I blend this foundation in with my beauty blender my skin looks flawless and I have actually received quite a bit of compliments wearing this foundation. One of my all time favourite things about this foundation is I don’t have to set it with powder.

Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer in fair

You can see my dark circles from across the room because as a university student, I don’t know what sleep is. This concealer not only cover my dark circles but brighten up my under eye area by creating a nice highlight. Add some setting powder on top of the concealer and you are set for the day!

Kate Moss for Rimmel London Long Lasting Lipsticks

Screen Shot 2016-05-14 at 8.54.25 PM

I’ve mentioned the Kate Moss lipsticks before in my February favourites and while my opinion hasn’t changed, my collection has! I went from owning 1 to 5 in just a few short months! Recently I’ve been reaching for these instead of my higher end lipsticks!

April 2016 Ipsy Glam Bag First Impression

The bag

I love this months bag, I’ll definitely find a way to use it. It’s colourful with yellow and blue tie dye, and once I looked closely I noticed a little pink along the edges of the blue, too.

Trust Fund Beauty That Glo Tho Face Highlighter

I love the name of this, “that glo tho”, it’s hilarious. It’s a lovely golden bronze colour, and right now all I’ve got for highlighter is my Smashbox step-by-step contour kit so it’s nice to have something that’s more than a kit.

tarte cosmetics LipSurgence Lip Creme

I got the lip creme in the colour ”
wonder”, which seems like a bright pinkish red. I’m not sure yet how I feel about the colour, but I like it more than some others I’ve received from ipsy.

Luxie Beauty Dreamcatcher Tapered Highlighter Brush 522

This brush is really soft, just like every other Luxie brush I’ve ever felt. Also like every other Luxie brush I’ve ever seen, it’s very pretty.

Harvey Prince Organics Keravegan Hair Mask

I’m a sucker for hair products, so I was pretty excited about this. I’m assuming it’s called Keravegan because it’s got keratin and it’s organic/vegan, which if that’s true then it should be fantastic for your hair.

Probelle Nail Lacquer

The colour I got for this is called “In or Out” and it’s a sort of pastel yet bright purple, if that’s possible. I’m not a huge fan of the colour, and the smell is really strong for my liking, but if it’s a good quality nail polish then I’ll keep the brand in mind when making future purchases.
