Sephora Haul + First Impression

I recently made a Sephora order which resulted in me becoming VIB (which I’m pretty pumped about), although my bank account isn’t as pumped. Anyways…I’ve had these products for a few months and have finally gathered my opinion on them so here we go!

Kat Von D Shade + Light Face Contour Refillable Palette ($64.00 CAD)

I love this contour pallet, although I wish there was a highlighter in it. I love that all the shades are very blendable and able to give a flawlessly chiseled look. One thing I have noticed about this pallet though is you only need a little bit of product, trust me it goes a long way!

Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette  ($62.00 CAD)

I love the idea of having a contour palette for my eyes (is that weird? Like I know you can just use regular shadows to achieve it but I just love that I own an eye contour palette) anyways…I love the pigmentation of these shades! I am able to do very versatile looks with the different shades but again a little goes a long way!

Tarte Tartelette in Bloom Clay Eyeshadow Palette ($60.00 CAD)

Can we just take a second to appreciate how f*cking gorgeous this palette is?! Honestly, I bought it because I wanted to try a Tarte palette and I liked the colour scheme of this one and oh my god I’m so happy I did! I love this palette and it’s quickly become one of my most used palettes! The colours are pigmented and very blendable, def a favourite!

Too Faced The Chocolate Bar Eye Palette ($59.00 CAD)

I was fighting with myself over if I wanted the Chocolate Bar palette or if I wanted the Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar palette but I ended up going for the original (obviously) and honestly…I’m so happy I did. I own a lot of neutral palettes but I still find myself reaching for this one over a lot of my other one!

Too Faced Sweet Peach Glow Peach-Infused Highlighting Palette ($52.00 CAD)

I was so excited about this product and unfortunately, I’m a little disappointed. I only use the one on the far left because I find it’s the only one that gives me a beautiful highlight however the blush shade isn’t bad, it’s just not my favourite (but at least it smells good!).

SEPHORA Collection Cream Lip Stain in 13 Marvelous Mauve ($18.00 CAD)

I love this lip product, the only thing I will say is (since it’s a stain) it tries darker than the product in the bottle and it stays a little tacky so you can feel in on your lips but it’s such a nice product that I still find myself reaching for it. It is dry but not as drying as the Colourpop Matte Liquid Lipsticks which I find very drying!

August 2016 Ipsy Bag

Honestly where did the month go?! I’ve just returned home from Orlando so I finally was able to check my mail and look through my Ipsy bag for the month of August! So without further ado here is my first impressions for the August 2016 Ipsy bag!

Pacifica Sundreams Lotus Infused Bronzer in Sunkissed

Product Description:

This bronze is as good as gold. Smooth and super blendable, it gives that perfect sun-kissed glow without weighing skin down.

  • Natural color, so you can avoid the fake-and-bake look
  • Build-a-tan. The more you add, the more you glow.
  • Universal shade works perfectly for most skin tones

First Impression:

My first impression of this product is that I’m head over heels in love with the packaging. Packaging plays a huge role for me when deciding on if I should get the product or not (kind of like the whole “don’t judge a book by its cover” but I totally judge). The bronzer is beautiful and seems like it will be really easy to blend and easy to build. I’m quite excited to try this out with future looks!

Winky Lux Diamond Complexion Powder in Light

This Product’s Amaze Factor

#NoFilter necessary. This diffusing powder infused with crushed diamonds makes light of your imperfections. A girl’s best friend, indeed.

  • Buildable, so you can pick the amount of coverage you want
  • Soft-focus effect and shine-free finish
  • Lightweight texture feels like velvet and won’t clog pores

First Impression:

This powder is amazing (the swatch I did anyways!) and I can tell its going to be an important product in my every day makeup routine!

Organic Surge Perfecting Face Polish

Product Description:

This Product’s Amaze Factor

An olive branch for your skin. Made of finely ground olive stone, it gently removes dirt, impurities and dead cells to give a peaceful glow.

  • Rosemary and lemon oils purify your complexion
  • Chamomile and ginkgo biloba soothe and soften
  • Almond oil adds extra hydration
First Impression:
love facial scrubs so this is already a big win for me! The smell is an amazing mix of rosemary and lemon giving it a very fresh scent and leaves skin feeling polished and cleansed!

IT Cosmetics No-Tug Waterproof Mini Gel Eyeliner

This Product’s Amaze Factor

  • Works its magic on the inner and outer rims of the lash line

  • Includes good-for-skin ingredients hydrolyzed collagen and silk proteins

  • Free of skin irritants (parabens, fragrances and sulfates)
First Impression:
I hope I stop receiving eyeliner at some point because I never wear it however this is a nice creamy liner and I would recommend it to those who wear eyeliner regularly.

Ciaté London Paint Pot in Spinning Teacups

This Product’s Amaze Factor

This cult-fave nail polish is fit for a queen (we’re talking about you).

  • Pumps you up. Adds volume to your nail beds.

  • High-shine all the time

  • The tapered precision brush allows for easy and more controlled application.
  • Spinning Teacups: No shrinking violets here. This lovely lavender will give your fall wardrobe a hit of whimsy. Let the purple reign.

First Impression:

I’m so excited that I received this (and I just can’t hide it!) because it is the most beautiful purple ever! I’ve wanted to try this brand since Adrienne shared this video of her polish (which I still need to try) so I’m so excited for this colour to be on my nails, I think it will be perfect for all seasons!

July 2016 Ipsy Bag

I know it has been literally months since I reviewed an Ipsy bag and I’m really sorry about that. However the July bag is just too incredible so I have to share it with you!

Elizabeth Mott Show Me Your Cheeks Blush in Peach Pink

Product Description: It’s time to blush up on your game. Start with this universally flattering and foolproof shade. And build a glow that goes from subtle sheen to full-on flush.

  • Irridescent finish with subtle sparkle
  • Long-lasting color that takes you from day to dancefloor
  • Cruelty-free and never tested on fuzzy friends

First Impression: My first impression of this blush is that it is gorgeous and perfect for a subtle glow (but as the description says you can build it). The only thing I dislike about this blush is the packaging. I’m not sure if it’s the regular packaging or not but the packaging it came in through Ipsy is a cheap plastic packaging that can be difficult to open. However the product itself is incredible! Also a huge bonus is that this product is cruelty-free and never tested on animals, gotta love that!

Trust Fund Beauty Nail Polish in No Filter

Product Description: When people say we have no filter, we take it as a compliment. This soft violet shade paints your tips in the perfect light.

  • Skip the double coat. Delivers an opaque effect in a single swipe.
  • Thick formula dries fast to super shiny finish
  • 10-free and fabulous (aka none of the typical toxic ingredients)

First Impression: I love getting nail polish and I love TrustFund so receiving this was a win win! I love the colour and the only way I can think how to describe it is really weird so just bare with me. You know when you open a blueberry yogurt and you mix it all together and it makes a really pretty pale purple? That’s the colour of this polish. Or if you want you can just describe it as “soft violet” like the description says and is the perfect shade! The formula is beautiful and the application is clean with minimal mess & it’s cruelty free!

theBalm Cosmetics Meet Matt(e) Trimony Eyeshadow in Matt Kumar

Product Description:  Triple milled just sounds attractive, doesn’t it? It means this shadow is super fine, making it smooth and easy to blend.

  • Ultra-matte color
  • Perfect on your lids, in the crease or as a transition shade
  • Velvety texture that’s as soft as it is stunning

First Impression: I love theBalm Cosmetics so I was super excited to see this in my glam bag this month! The colour is a beautiful matte cranberry colour that I know I will be wearing a lot (especially in the fall) that is also cruelty free! You don’t need a lot of this shadow on your brush, a little goes a long way!

BeFine Food Skin Care

Product Description: This ultra-lush cream goes on like buttah and recharges your skin while you sleep. So feel free to hit snooze a few more times.

  • Natural estrogen works to reduce wrinkles and prevent premature aging
  • Allergen free fragrance
  • Improves circulation in the skin for healthier color and tone

First Impression: I have never heard of this brand before so this is the first product I’ve tried from them. The cream is really nice and leaves your skin feeling soft and refreshed however I don’t like the smell of this product. It isn’t strong but it is noticeable however it doesn’t last long so if you aren’t sensitive to smells you should be fine with this product.

ML Cosmetics Felt Tip Eyeliner in Emerald Isle

Product Description:  Green with envy? Everyone will be—when you steal the spotlight in this emerald shade. It doesn’t just make your outfit. It IS the outfit.

  • Smooth formula glides easily across your lid
  • Control freak. No-slip grip means you can apply precisely.
  • Stays put and won’t bleed. Perfect for trying a pop of color for the first time.
First Impression: Let’s just give ML Cosmetics a round of applause for creating the most gorgeous liquid liner I have ever seen in my life! The only issue I have with this liner is the name. It’s called Emerald Isle and to me it isn’t emerald, it is more sea foam green however it’s still beautiful!
The Bag: This is probably one of my favourite bags I’ve ever recieved and the actual bag itself is the perfect bag for summer! Well done Ipsy!

April 2016 Ipsy Bag

I can’t believe it’s almost the end of April but I am so ready for summer! I’m very excited for my glam bag this month and can’t wait to try out all the products I’ve received. The theme this month is dreamers and I’m loving it so far!

Starlooks Luxe Longwear Eyeliner in JET

Product Description:  Dramatically emphasize your eyes with Starlooks’ intensely-pigmented, mechanical kohl eye pencil! These ultra-soft liners glide across delicate lids and water-line without pulling or scratching. Try a smokey effect by blending outwards with a fluffy brush!

  • Maximum Color Saturation
  • Long-lasting
  • Ultra Creamy Formula

First Impression: I have stated time and time again that I am not an eyeliner person. I don’t wear it (mainly because I just make a mess) but even I can appreciate how beautiful this eyeliner is! I swatched it on my wrist and was amazed by the pigmentation. This is the blackest eyeliner I’ve ever seen and it’s very creamy. Another huge plus is that it’s retractable which makes it perfect for traveling because you don’t have to pack a sharpener as well.

Tarte Cosmetics Lip Insurgence Lip Creme in Wonder

Product Description: The super creamy formula is infused with their famous maracuja oil to leave lips feeling oh-so soft. And we’re beyond obsessed with the soft poppy pink shade.13106778_10206062971717654_832939449_o

P.S. It also doubles as a cheek color! Apply to the apples of cheeks and blend for a radiant flush of color.

First Impression: I have wanted to try Tarte Cosmetics for so long so I was super excited about this. I haven’t tried it on my lips yet but I swatched the colour and it is gorgeous! The formula feels creamy and it seems like the product won’t transfer much, will update you all on this! Also bonus, Tarte is cruelty free!

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Gel to Oil Overnight Repair Treatment

Product Description: This overnight treatment has seriously upgraded our hair repair game! The nutrient-rich gel melts into an oil to release a blend of Natural Oils, Vitamins and Antioxidants (AKA NOVA Complex) that strengthens, restores moisture, and repairs damage while you get your beauty sleep – literally.

First Impression: I’m a little wary on putting oil on my hair because my hair gets oily fast (like I don’t even know what second day hair is) but I’m really excited to try this product because if it repairs I’m game because my hair is damaged. This product doesn’t seem to have a scent, or if there is one it isn’t strong at all,  which is nice so for now this product is good with me.

Crown Brush C427 Duo Fiber Blush Brush

Product Description:It multitasks as much as you do! Use with your fave foundation, blush, or highlight.
First Impression: This brush is very soft and has finger grips on the handle which is a plus.  I don’t know how likely I am to use this brush for foundation but for blush I think it’ll be a great brush.

Trust Fund Beauty That Glo Tho Face Highlighter

Product Description: It’s totally buildable, so you can take your look from a subtle sheen to an out-of-this-world glow. Plus, the ultra-blendable formula is totally foolproof – perfect for anyone from newbies to pros!
First Impression: I am so excited to try this highlighter! I do not own any highlighters and the fact that I got one from one of my favourite brands is a huge bonus for me. What I’m most excited about is that it’s a cream and which I swatched it, it was absolutely beautiful! I’m very excited to try this!

Ipsy March 2016

I had this post written ages ago but I kept forgetting to take pictures of the products (I’d lose my head if it was screwed on I swear) so here it is, my first impressions for the March Ipsy bag. You know what they say, better late than never!

Beau Gâchis Paris Eyeshadow Brush

Product Description: Beau Gâchis® Paris’ Cosmetic Eyeshadow Brush enables beautiful, flawless application of loose and cream shadows. This handmade brush distributes pigment evenly and smoothly, and can be used to apply powder, liquid or cream products as well.

  • Individually constructed from the finest animal hair and purest synthetic fibers for quality and durability
  • Ultra soft bristles that blend easily and soften lines
  • Matte black wooden handle and durable ferrules as used by professionals

First Impression: It’s a good brush and it does it’s job so I can’t really complain!

Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco 3 Day Smooth Perfect Blow Dry Cream

Product Description: A unique combination of ultra-light Mediterranean Olive Oil and Argan Oil – the ancestral beauty secret of Morocco – plus Shea Butter and our exclusive anti-frizz lock technology makes curls and waves desirably straight. Keratin deeply penetrates to strengthen while Vitamin E nourishes. Your hair will be glossy, ultra-smooth and full of body.

  • Maintains smooth hair for up to 3 days
  • Frizz lock technology removes frizz
  • Strengthens and seals split ends

First Impression: Let me start off by saying I love Marc Anthony’s Morocco line (I have the shampoo, conditioner and body wash) so when I saw this in my Ipsy bag I was so excited! The only problem is that it’s a blow dry cream and I don’t blow dry my hair. I have very thick hair that is also quite long so I never blow dry it (it literally takes 45 minutes at least to dry). However I thought I’d try this so I applied it to damp hair (it smells so good by the way) and dried my hair (not fully) and noticed that it did help with my frizz. However this is only day one so I’m not sure how it will be tomorrow. So far I like it though!

Vera Mona Lotus Eyeshadow in Clover

12476867_10205851503231074_1707379532_o (1)

Product Description:  This beautiful pink-toned shimmer eyeshadow is the perfect shade to achieve a soft glowy look for Spring.

  • Travel-size
  • Pink shimmer shade

First Impression: This shadow is so beautiful! I love the colour (it’s honestly perfect for spring) and it’s so easy to blend. I wore it in my crease and loved how subtle but pretty it was. Definitely love this shadow!

Pixi by Petra Beauty Blush Duo in Rose Gold

Product Description:  This silky blush gives the perfect sheer flush on the apples of your cheeks. Its natural mineral powder formula reflects light, applies true to colour, is hydrating and feels lightweight on the skin. Each duo features two shades to be worn alone or layered.

  • Natural-looking glow
  • Apply with a fluffy soft brush

First Impression: I’ve said it many times, I’m not a real blush fan. I don’t go out looking for blush (because my cheeks are naturally really rosey) but I was so excited for this blush! I love the colours and how subtle it is. There is shimmer in it but it’s honestly not over whelming, defiantly a workable blush. I actually used the lighter gold shade as a highlight as well (not sure if you are suppose to or not) and it works really well which is great for me considering I don’t own any!

NYX Cosmetics Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Pink Lust

Product Description:  Doll up your lips with plush and vibrant color! NYX’s Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick glides on smooth and sets into a striking matte finish. Velvety soft and waterproof, this long-lasting lippie creates a positively polished look with every swipe.

  • Waterproof, liquid lipstick infused with avocado oil and Vitamin E
  • Super pigmented lipstick goes on opaque and dries to matte finish
  • Delivers long-wearing, vivid color in one creamy swipe

First Impression: For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to try NYX Cosmetics so when I saw this in the sneak peak, I was immediately excited! I really wanted the shade Soft Spoken but I am so pleased with Pink Lust! I love the formula of this cream lipstick however it does stain your lips so just be prepared for that. Pink Lust is very bright so if you aren’t a fan of bright colours this is not the colour for you however the cream lipsticks themselves are amazing. I loved them so much I actually went out and bought two more; Sway (lilac purple, very pretty) and Vintage (which is a beautiful maroon colour).

Overall Impression: Overall I am so pleased with my Ipsy bag this month! I wasn’t a big fan of the actual bag itself when I saw it but it’s slowly growing on me (it’s probably the biggest one too which is nice, more stuff!). This bag just reinforces my love for Ipsy!

BirchBox February 2016

I recently subscribed to BirchBox, which is a monthly subscription service that sends a box of 4 to 5 items of beauty related products so very simple to Ipsy. Since the Canadian dollar is so low right now BirchBox has suspended their current services for Canada so this is the only box I will be receiving and from my first impression of the box, I’m not too torn up about it.

Naobay HydeaPlus Cream ($43)

Product Description: This boosts moisture levels in the skin with a combination of sage extract, olive oil, aloe vera and chamomile.

First Impression: At first glance it looks like your average cream so nothing really jumped out at me. It smells like a cream my great grandmother used when I was younger, a mixture between oil (not necessarily olive) and aloe vera. It’s not an unpleasant smell but it certainly isn’t my favourite. The creams leaves your skin feeling tacky and not smooth once it’s rubbed in. I have eczema and I found this cream irritated my skin a bit, not too much but enough to notice.

12765649_10205625382178189_2018429866_o Number 4 Fluoro Elixer Restore & Repair Oil ($30)

Product Description: This strand-saving elixer gives drab, dull hair a coveted movie star shine.

First Impression: I am actually very excited for this product. I love getting new things to try on my hair and this is no exception. It has a nice scent (floral maybe? I can’t really explain it) which stays with your hair and gives your hair a really nice shine. I have purple, pink and blue in my hair and this product made the colours more vibrant so I would say this is a huge win for me but I’m not sure if I would use it on my roots just because of how shinny and I’m scared it will look greasy.

CLEAN White Woods Eau de Parfum ($44-79)

Product Description: Top notes of bergamot, mandarin, and black pepper are followed by notes of magnolia, lily and vanilla orchard.

First Impression: Ok I’m not going to lie; I am very picky about perfumes and this one was no exception. I didn’t think I’d like it from the product description and while it isn’t the worst perfume, it’s not something I would pick out for myself. Also a little goes a long way, this perfume is very strong.

12787442_10205625382458196_71098337_oObsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar -Black Metal Dahlia ($18)

Product Description: Apply the tiniest bead of this cruelty-free, cult favourite liquid lipstick to lips for matte, opaque coverage.

First Impression: This is the product I picked for my birchbox and I’m in love (I clearly made the right choice!). The colour is beautiful (although very dark) however because it’s in a test tube it isn’t easy to apply and it makes more of a mess than anything but I do love the product and I’ll just have to use a lip brush to apply it.

12773307_10205625382538198_1312867384_o Cynthia Rowley Beauty Black Eyeliner ($18)

Product Description: A luxe, creamy liner from the NYC-based designer for smudge proof, all-day wear.

First Impression: love this eyeliner! I have said it time and time again I am not an eyeliner person (simply because I don’t have the patience) but this eyeliner is amazing and I can’t wait to start wearing it! It’s creamy and it’s the blackest eyeliner I have ever had! I love how creamy it is and that it’s long wear (no joke I swatched in on my wrist and then had a shower and had to scrub it off that’s how good it is!). This is defiantly my favourite product out of the whole box!

Final Impression: I honestly wasn’t too impressed with BirchBox this month. I was expecting more because of all the good things I heard about them but alas that’s life. I do really love the eyeliner and the repair hair oil so it wasn’t a complete loss.

Lush Cosmetics: Snow Fairy Limited Edition Shower Gel

Lush Cosmetics Product Description:

Sweet, sparkly and candy scented!

Oh how we’ve missed lathering up in those fluffy pink bubbles! We crave Snow Fairy’s bubblegum and sweet vanilla fragrance all year, and just can’t imagine the holidays without her. Our famous fairy contains a smattering of biodegradable shimmering luster (or as we like to call it, Fairy Dust), so she won’t harm the earth one little bit! Sparkly, pink and candy scented – what more could we ask for?!

Michaela’s First Impression:

I have never ordered from Lush so for my birthday / Christmas present Adrienne got me 2 bath bombs and the Snow Fairy limited edition shower gel. My first thought for the shower gel was WOW BRIGHT! It is a beautiful hot pink colour and the closer you look the product you’ll shimmering specs. The product description says it smells like bubblegum and vanilla but to me it doesn’t smell like that at all. It smells like cotton candy that you would get from the carnival. The smell is so strong in the bottle I was a little nervous to use it but I gave it a go and noticed two things; the smell is not strong and you can’t really see the shimmer.  While I appreciate that I don’t smell like I got swallowed by a stick of cotton candy, I wish the shimmer was a little more evident. However what I do love about Lush is they are 100% vegan and do not test on animals.
