Adrienne’s May Favourites

Well I decided this summer that I would try to post more on our blog, starting with some monthly favourites. So here we go and hopefully you all like my choices or are inspired to try them yourselves.

Smashbox Full Exposer Mascara:

I feel like this has been a favourite of all of ours on this blog. I started out with two sample sizes of this product in October and November and I recently just purchased the full size. This product is an absolute life saver. I am the type to constantly try new mascaras because who doesn’t love new mascaras but after I have been using this product I don’t think I could go back. It lengths my lashes, gives them depth and volume with no clumps. I do always brush my lashes out with a clean mascara brush to help separate my lashes but honestly there is barely any separation that  needs to happen.

Of course I am still going to continue to test new mascaras out because honestly it’s just so fun but this will continue to be my go to. It works for every occasion and helps me achieve a natural eyelash look (I am blonde so my eyelashes are pretty light without mascara and I like having my eyelashes look a little bit darker while looking natural). This product retails for $25 on Sephora

Benefit Gimme Brow in Light/Medium:

IMG_2774

I purchased this product half way through May so I haven’t been using it for very long, however compared to the other brow products I have been using this is hands down the best. I love simple, easy to use products, especially if I am just doing something quick for my makeup. I use this product practically everyday now and my eyebrows feel naked with out it. This product is perfect for anyone who likes their brows to look a little more bold and firmly in place, while still looking natural and not like they’re overly done up.

IMG_2773

This product is a tinted brow volumizing fibre gel that helps make you eyebrows look put together. I have kind of splotchy eyebrows so I have a few little gaps where they hair is either not there or is super light (because I am blonde) and this product helps to fill that in and make them look even. I use the shade Light/Medium which is perfect for blonde’s (or light brunette’s) looking to get bolder, natural looking eyebrows. This product retails for $30 at Sephora.

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Soft Spoken:

The March Ipsy glam bag featured this product and two other colours (Kitten Heals and Pink Lust) . I received Kitten Heals; a bright red and when I tried it I instantly fell in love with the formula. However, I have lately been loving nude lip colours so when my local Shoppers Drug Mart started carrying NYX I knew I had to get more. I chose this colours because I like something a little darker than nude but still in the colour range. This product stays for about 4 + hours on my lips, even when I’m drinking. I’ve tried some of NYX’s other lip products but their Liquid Suede is my favourite line so far. It dries matte but it leaves your lips feeling soft and not overly dry looking. This product retails for $10 on the brands website.

Through the Looking Glass

All I have to say about this product is wow. I am utterly astonished by how beautiful it is. There is a great balance between neutral and adventurous colours, as well as matte, shimmer, and sparkle as well.

I usually prefer neutral tones for my eyes, however I’m always up to experimenting by adding just a hint of a dramatic colour occasionally so I think this pallet will help me to get comfortable not just with colour but for more dramatic eye looks.

IMG_2623

My favourite colours are Metamorphosis (periwinkle shimmer), Looking Glass (light pink shimmer), Salazen Grum (red/orange shimmer), and Kingdom (medium brown shimmer). Kingdom and Looking glass are pretty similar to other colours that you could get in the naked pallets while Metamorphosis and Salazen Grum are completely unique.

The brush its self is very different from the ones in the Naked pallets which I was very excited about when I found out. They’re skinnier and the blending brush is longer than the one’s in the Naked pallets. I usually just use the fatter blending brush in my Naked pallets for the majority of my eyeshadows and blending needs but I have actually been using the smaller side of this brush more than the blending side.

This pallet retails for $75 at Sephora and that is honestly such a steal when you consider that there are 20 colours which comes to $3.75 an eyeshadow. I would highly suggest buying this pallet or even considering buying it. I regret the fact that I never purchased the Alice in Wonderland one years ago, don’t make my mistake with this pallet because this pallet can very easily become iconic in years to come.

April 2016 Ipsy Glam Bag First Impression

The bag

I love this months bag, I’ll definitely find a way to use it. It’s colourful with yellow and blue tie dye, and once I looked closely I noticed a little pink along the edges of the blue, too.

Trust Fund Beauty That Glo Tho Face Highlighter

I love the name of this, “that glo tho”, it’s hilarious. It’s a lovely golden bronze colour, and right now all I’ve got for highlighter is my Smashbox step-by-step contour kit so it’s nice to have something that’s more than a kit.

tarte cosmetics LipSurgence Lip Creme

I got the lip creme in the colour ”
wonder”, which seems like a bright pinkish red. I’m not sure yet how I feel about the colour, but I like it more than some others I’ve received from ipsy.

Luxie Beauty Dreamcatcher Tapered Highlighter Brush 522

This brush is really soft, just like every other Luxie brush I’ve ever felt. Also like every other Luxie brush I’ve ever seen, it’s very pretty.

Harvey Prince Organics Keravegan Hair Mask

I’m a sucker for hair products, so I was pretty excited about this. I’m assuming it’s called Keravegan because it’s got keratin and it’s organic/vegan, which if that’s true then it should be fantastic for your hair.

Probelle Nail Lacquer

The colour I got for this is called “In or Out” and it’s a sort of pastel yet bright purple, if that’s possible. I’m not a huge fan of the colour, and the smell is really strong for my liking, but if it’s a good quality nail polish then I’ll keep the brand in mind when making future purchases.

Nude Dude eyeshadow pallet is the best kind of nude dude

IMG_2500

This is one of my favourite pallets next to the Naked pallets by Urban Decay. Playing on the pinup style from the 1950’s, this pallet amusingly plays on sexuality with its feature of ‘naked men’ under the eyeshadows; neutral tones from light to dark.

IMG_2501

My favourite shadow is “Flirty” which is a lighter purple with bits of gold flecks in it. There is are several matte shadows (Fearless, Fabulous, Flawless, and Feisty), and shimmer shadows (Faithful, Firm, Fit, Flirty, Friendly, Funny, Fierce, and Fine). These colours are all easy to use and blend beautifully.

The product retails for about $45 Canadian, but on their website it is listed at $36 American

I got this product at my local beauty store -before its recent closure :(- and one of the ladies working there recommended this product to me in replace of the Natural Eye Neutral Eye Shadow by Too Faced.  This product is definitely a good mach for that pallet, plus this one by The Balm comes with more colours and the gorgeous purple/gold shadow.

Dream On with the April Glam Bag by Ipsy

This months glam bag by Ipsy is stunning. This months theme is dream and the bag does embody that with its tie-dye print. It is perfect for the spring and the excitement of the summer to come. This bag holds a great amount and looks hella cute just to carry around.

This month I received:

City Color Cosmetics Highlight Trio. The colours are gorgeous and look like they will be great for highlighting.

Crown Brush C427 Duo Fiber Blush Brush.

IMG_2494

Moroccan Oil treatment. I tried this several years ago and loved it so I’m super excited that I received this in my bag.

Starlooks Luxe Longwear Eye Pencil in Jet. This is similar to a kohl liner but it doesn’t need to be sharpened. I tested it out on my arm and it goes on smooth and barely smudges like other pencil liner. Would definitely recommend.

Tarte LipSurgence lip crème in Wonder. It’s a beautiful, creamy pink that is a very similar colour its packaging. It’s hydrating and comfortable to wear.

I am very pleased with this month’s glam bag and I can’t wait to try everything out!

Let me know what you guys think of this months bag

Ipsy Glam Bag March 2016

Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco 3 Day Smooth Perfect Blow Dry Cream:

Anyone who knows me knows that I love anything to do with having healthier hair. When I saw that I was getting a Marc Anthony product, I was extremely excited. I have wanted to try a product by them for quite some time, but I have never been able to afford it. I blow dry my hair a lot, even though I know it’s horrible for your hair, so the fact that it was a blow dry cream made it even better.

I used the Blow Dry Cream the day after I got my bag. The instructions on the tube aren’t extremely clear, so I sort of made up my own routine of flipping my head upside down and rubbing it into my hair, then flipping my head back up and putting my hair to each side to make sure the cream got everywhere. Afterwards I combed my hair with a wet hair comb to even it out without damaging my hair too much.

On the first day my hair was noticeably softer, and every consecutive time that I uses the cream it got even softer. Marc Anthony, you amaze me. I will definitely by buying this product once I run out.

Vera Mona Lotus Eyeshadow in Clover:

I don’t have much to say about this product other than the eyeshadow itself is good quality, and comes in a small enough package to be easily transported for reapplication if needed. I personally don’t like the colour, it’s just too pink for me.

Pixi by Petra Beauty Blush Duo in Rose Gold:

I have mixed feelings about this blush. I like that it’s two colours, because it highlights and adds a blush colour at the same time, which is great. I no longer have to chose between highlighting or blush. The problem is that the pink in the blush isn’t very bright, like at all. I have to apply an extremely thick layer before I see any results of the pink, but by then my cheeks are all shiny from the gold.

NYX Cosmetics Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick:

Okay, this lipstick is both fantastic and awful at the same time. Personally, the colour is not for me. I got the vibrant red colour, like the reddest red there ever was, but that’s not the problem. The problem is that this lipstick does not come off. That can be both good and bad. No reapplying throughout the day, don’t have to worry about eating, drinking, kissing, or whatever else might rub off a normal lipstick. But, if you want to be able to take it off at night or not have any left over the next day, for the entire day, this lipstick is not for you. I applied it, didn’t like it, tried to take it off, and was stuck with it for the entirety of the next day.

Me me me Loose Powder Brush:

This brush is a little too solid to actually blend anything. I used it for my loose powder (duh) and I didn’t really like it. I could hardly see a difference after applying it, so it doesn’t work that great. It’s small enough to carry around without taking up much space like my other brushes, but it’s just not good enough to actually use.

Also, here’s my main problem with ipsy: there’s a style quiz you take in which you select the types of things that you want, however you can’t select the things that you don’t want. I do not have it selected that I want makeup brushes, however I have received a brush every single month except one. You can review you products you’ve received, and state that you don’t want any more items like that, and I do that every time. Yet, I manage to get a brush, every. time.

So so Charming

Charming by The Balm is one of my favourite liquid lipsticks ever! The colour is a dusty rose and it very easy to apply. I myself use to be very skeptical of liquid lipsticks but after I received a sample of Committed by  The Balm in my October Ipsy bag I was sold. Charming is one of my favourite lip colours so far. It’s a good colour for day and night, it is a casual colour yet extremely striking. This colour really makes my lips pop yet it doesn’t make me feel like I’m over dressed.

Screen Shot 2016-03-17 at 10.07.53 PM

After apply the lipstick I find that it has a minty, tingly feeling on my lips; right before it dries into this beautiful matte colour that lasts for at least 8 hours. A bit of the lipstick does come off on glasses but the colour removing from your lips isn’t noticeable at all.

Overall this product is one of my favourites and it is becoming an everyday lip colour for me.
