I know it has been literally months since I reviewed an Ipsy bag and I’m really sorry about that. However the July bag is just too incredible so I have to share it with you!
Elizabeth Mott Show Me Your Cheeks Blush in Peach Pink
Product Description: It’s time to blush up on your game. Start with this universally flattering and foolproof shade. And build a glow that goes from subtle sheen to full-on flush.
- Irridescent finish with subtle sparkle
- Long-lasting color that takes you from day to dancefloor
- Cruelty-free and never tested on fuzzy friends
First Impression: My first impression of this blush is that it is gorgeous and perfect for a subtle glow (but as the description says you can build it). The only thing I dislike about this blush is the packaging. I’m not sure if it’s the regular packaging or not but the packaging it came in through Ipsy is a cheap plastic packaging that can be difficult to open. However the product itself is incredible! Also a huge bonus is that this product is cruelty-free and never tested on animals, gotta love that!
Trust Fund Beauty Nail Polish in No Filter
Product Description: When people say we have no filter, we take it as a compliment. This soft violet shade paints your tips in the perfect light.
- Skip the double coat. Delivers an opaque effect in a single swipe.
- Thick formula dries fast to super shiny finish
- 10-free and fabulous (aka none of the typical toxic ingredients)
First Impression: I love getting nail polish and I love TrustFund so receiving this was a win win! I love the colour and the only way I can think how to describe it is really weird so just bare with me. You know when you open a blueberry yogurt and you mix it all together and it makes a really pretty pale purple? That’s the colour of this polish. Or if you want you can just describe it as “soft violet” like the description says and is the perfect shade! The formula is beautiful and the application is clean with minimal mess & it’s cruelty free!
theBalm Cosmetics Meet Matt(e) Trimony Eyeshadow in Matt Kumar
Product Description: Triple milled just sounds attractive, doesn’t it? It means this shadow is super fine, making it smooth and easy to blend.
- Ultra-matte color
- Perfect on your lids, in the crease or as a transition shade
- Velvety texture that’s as soft as it is stunning
First Impression: I love theBalm Cosmetics so I was super excited to see this in my glam bag this month! The colour is a beautiful matte cranberry colour that I know I will be wearing a lot (especially in the fall) that is also cruelty free! You don’t need a lot of this shadow on your brush, a little goes a long way!
BeFine Food Skin Care
Product Description: This ultra-lush cream goes on like buttah and recharges your skin while you sleep. So feel free to hit snooze a few more times.
- Natural estrogen works to reduce wrinkles and prevent premature aging
- Allergen free fragrance
- Improves circulation in the skin for healthier color and tone
First Impression: I have never heard of this brand before so this is the first product I’ve tried from them. The cream is really nice and leaves your skin feeling soft and refreshed however I don’t like the smell of this product. It isn’t strong but it is noticeable however it doesn’t last long so if you aren’t sensitive to smells you should be fine with this product.
ML Cosmetics Felt Tip Eyeliner in Emerald Isle
Product Description: Green with envy? Everyone will be—when you steal the spotlight in this emerald shade. It doesn’t just make your outfit. It IS the outfit.
- Smooth formula glides easily across your lid
- Control freak. No-slip grip means you can apply precisely.
- Stays put and won’t bleed. Perfect for trying a pop of color for the first time.
First Impression: Let’s just give ML Cosmetics a round of applause for creating the most gorgeous liquid liner I have ever seen in my life! The only issue I have with this liner is the name. It’s called Emerald Isle and to me it isn’t emerald, it is more sea foam green however it’s still beautiful!
The Bag: This is probably one of my favourite bags I’ve ever recieved and the actual bag itself is the perfect bag for summer! Well done Ipsy!
Summer is here and it seems to get hotter by the day so here are my summer essentials!
I know what everyone is thinking “Obviously Michaela”but I can’t stress how important protect your skin from the UV Rays. I hate the feeling of sunscreen but once I found a sunscreen that smelt nice I found it didn’t bother me so much. My personal favourite is Sun Bum!
Pro Tip: If you burn easily (like I do) I suggest buying a bottle of aloe vera gel and keep it in the fridge or put it in ice cube trays to freeze, it feels amazing on burns!
Honestly BB Cream is the most important thing to me because in the summer I do not want to be wearing foundation so having a BB Cream makes it so I can even out my complexion but also be protected from the sun as most BB Creams have SPF in them! My BB Cream of choice for the past few summers has been the Rimmel London BB Cream in Light.
Oil Blotting Sheets
I won’t lie, I sweat a lot in the summer. I work in a summer program where we are outside more than we are inside so naturally in the 35 degree weather I’m going to need to blot my face. My 2 favourites are the Palladio Rice Paper Oil-Absorbing Blotting Tissues with rice powder and the Neutrogena Deep Clean Shine Control Blotting Sheets.
With summer time comes open patios where you eat and drink and of course, sit in the sun so it’s necessary to have a setting spray in your life. During the winter I rarely set my makeup because it doesn’t go anywhere but in the summer I spray my face daily! My favourite setting spray to date is the NYX Matter Finish Long Lasting Setting Spray.
While face masks are a necessity all year round, I find myself reaching for them more in the summer time. I love the feeling of refreshed and clean skin and masks are the perfect way to achieve that. I’ve recently been loving the Life Brand masks from Shopper’s drug mart.
I can’t stress this enough please wear deodorant. I’m not trying to be rude but it’s hot out and you are going to sweat, always have deodorant!
Prada Candy Kiss:
I love the Prada Candy line so of course when I saw there was a new one I had to try it. I feel in love with the scent instantly. It’s the perfume I never knew I needed. It is sweet smelling without being too much and it has this seductive scent in it that is just really alluring. This product retails for $98 at Sephora for a 1.7 oz bottle.
Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara:
I bought a travel size of this mascara in a set by Sephora called Totally Obsessed Set (which is now out of stock). I did not instantly fall in love with this mascara, however once I tried it a few times I figured out how to make sure my lashes would not clump and would stay looking soft and fluffy. This mascara is amazing once you figure out what works best for you with application. I like to gently apply my mascara and then go through with a clean mascara brush to un-clump my lashes, then wait a few second for the mascara to dry a bit and then build my lashes up with more mascara. I recently bought the waterproof version of this mascara and I can’t wait to wear it when I go to the beach! This product retails for $30 at Sephora for a full size.
Urban Decay Naked Foundation:
I already wrote a review on this foundation so I will not go on a huge rant about it. However if you do not feel like reading my previous review all I will say is that this foundation is perfect for summer and for people who want a foundation that is light weight and has minimal coverage but is buildable. I fell in love with this foundation because it literally feels like there is nothing on your face and I do not worry about my skin becoming oily and breaking out. This foundation retails for $47 at Sephora.
Vichy Normaderm Corrective Anti Acne Treatment:
I wanted to try a moisturizer that would help my face feeling hydrated without getting oily so I was recommended this product by a beauty expert. She told me to wash my face at night and then put on this moisturizer, and then in the morning to just wipe my face with toner (I have been using cleansing water). There has definitely been a difference in my skins appearance and while my acne has not completely gone away my breakouts are becoming fewer and I find my skin has not been very oily for the past month. I have used Vichy products in the past and I am probably going to go back to using them exclusively. This product retails for $29.99 CAD
I received this highlighter in the shade Bellissima in my June Ipsy bag (sorry I haven’t posted any Ipsy reviews in the past few months!) and honestly at first I wasn’t all that impressed because frankly I never really understood the hype around highlighters. However after trying it out on a whim one night, I instantly fell in love!
This isn’t the first highlighter I’ve received but it is by far my favourite. My favourite thing about this highlighter is that it has a touch of pink to it so it isn’t like someone just threw glitter on your face (which is how I feel about most highlighters). Truthfully this is my favourite highlighter I’ve ever used, I actually prefer it after my Pixi highlighter and my TrustFund Beauty highlighter.
This highlighter retails for $9.00 on the Dirty Little Secret Cosmetics website.
I decided to try this foundation because I wanted to try a light coverage foundation for the summer and honestly my skin looks and feels better since I have started using . The other foundations I have tried have all been medium to full coverage. I always noticed that by the end of the day I have noticeable lines around my mouth from my foundation and my face feels caky and gross; this is after a full day and usually if I walk home from school (which takes about 30 minutes) or if I wear a full face of makeup to work (wear my skin tends to get pretty oily because I am constantly moving). Because this foundation is light weight the coverage is sheer and it just helps to even skin tone. It did help to cover my blemishes as well, but concealer is still needed.
I have noticed a bit of a difference since I have started using this foundation. My skin does not feel heavy when I wear it and I have noticed fewer breakouts after. My skin tends to breakout pretty easily so I try to keep it as clean as possible and I do not wear foundation often because of this. However with this foundation I feel comfortable enough to wear it all day and not worry about it irritating my skin and causing any breakouts. My skin tends to get pretty oily while I am at work so I pretty much never wear makeup but with this foundation I feel comfortable enough to wear it to work and not worry about my face getting too oily or causing my skin to get irritated.
I use the lightest shade on this foundation (0.5) which is for very fair porcelain with subtle pink undertones. This is a tad lighter than what my face it but it blends in well with my neck and once I contour a bit and add some bronzer my face looks normal and no longer washed out. My skin and my face especially has a lot of pink in it so this helps to neutralize all that pink.
This product retails for $47 at Sephora. I purchased this at my local beauty store.
Update: I later tried mixing my shade with one that was slightly darker and found that I was able too make a better match for my skin tone.
I realize I haven’t posted anything in a while and for that I’m sorry. Here are my favourites for the month of June (and honestly some of them I’ve been loving them for a lot longer!).
1. Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup in the shade 1.5 ($40.00)
This is my first high end foundation and it’s become a quick favourite of mine. It gives me the right amount of coverage while remaining buildable if needed. I love the feel of it on my skin, or rather the fact that I can’t feel it on my skin. I put foundation on in the morning and go to work (I work at an Afterschool program where I run around with kids) then after work, I go to the gym and sweat and I swear this foundation do not move. It stays all day and you honestly don’t need to set it ( I usually don’t). The only downfall for me with this foundation is it’s very liquidy but if that’s what you are looking for then this is for you!
2. Benefit Hoola Bronzer ($36.00)
I recently purchases this bronzer when I was visiting my sister in Ontario and I love it! I often use this with whatever I’m using to contour with for an over all healthy glow. I also really love the brush that comes with it.
3. Smashbox Full Exposure Water Proof Mascara ($22.00)
I LOVE THIS MASCARA! I have mentioned before how I have zero eye lashes and how much my lashes suck however this mascara does wonders for me! It’s lengthens and adds volume to my lashes and I actually look like I have lashes for once in my life. This is my holy grail mascara and I honestly don’t think I will ever purchase a different mascara in my life. I will warn you though, this mascara is different then the regular full exposure mascara from the brush to the formula however both are amazing.
4. Victoria’s Secret Very Sexy Now Perfume ($52.00)
When I went to Victoria’s Secret a few weeks ago they were having a special that if you bought a bra and panty set you received a free perfume so naturally I had to do that. I chose the Very Sexy Now perfume and I am in love with it! The notes for this perfume are coconut water, pink lotus and warm sand accord so it’s essentially summer in a bottle. To me this perfume is exactly what I think about when I think of a beach day.
5. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Stockholm ($9.00)
I’ve been looking at the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams for a while and finally caved when they were on sale from $9 to $7 at my local Shoppers. I had a difficult time choosing between London and Stockholm and finally decided to try Stockholm and I am so happy I did. I love this lip cream. The feel of it on my lips is soft and it dries beautifully. I will definitely be purchasing more of these in the near future!
