Ipsy March 2016

I had this post written ages ago but I kept forgetting to take pictures of the products (I’d lose my head if it was screwed on I swear) so here it is, my first impressions for the March Ipsy bag. You know what they say, better late than never!

Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco 3 Day Smooth Perfect Blow Dry Cream

12914739_10205851503351077_1344090978_o

Product Description: A unique combination of ultra-light Mediterranean Olive Oil and Argan Oil – the ancestral beauty secret of Morocco – plus Shea Butter and our exclusive anti-frizz lock technology makes curls and waves desirably straight. Keratin deeply penetrates to strengthen while Vitamin E nourishes. Your hair will be glossy, ultra-smooth and full of body.

  • Maintains smooth hair for up to 3 days
  • Frizz lock technology removes frizz
  • Strengthens and seals split ends

First Impression: Let me start off by saying I love Marc Anthony’s Morocco line (I have the shampoo, conditioner and body wash) so when I saw this in my Ipsy bag I was so excited! The only problem is that it’s a blow dry cream and I don’t blow dry my hair. I have very thick hair that is also quite long so I never blow dry it (it literally takes 45 minutes at least to dry). However I thought I’d try this so I applied it to damp hair (it smells so good by the way) and dried my hair (not fully) and noticed that it did help with my frizz. However this is only day one so I’m not sure how it will be tomorrow. So far I like it though!

Vera Mona Lotus Eyeshadow in Clover

12476867_10205851503231074_1707379532_o (1)

Product Description:  This beautiful pink-toned shimmer eyeshadow is the perfect shade to achieve a soft glowy look for Spring.

  • Travel-size
  • Pink shimmer shade

First Impression: This shadow is so beautiful! I love the colour (it’s honestly perfect for spring) and it’s so easy to blend. I wore it in my crease and loved how subtle but pretty it was. Definitely love this shadow!

Pixi by Petra Beauty Blush Duo in Rose Gold

12896213_10205851503431079_1096267343_o

Product Description:  This silky blush gives the perfect sheer flush on the apples of your cheeks. Its natural mineral powder formula reflects light, applies true to colour, is hydrating and feels lightweight on the skin. Each duo features two shades to be worn alone or layered.

  • Natural-looking glow
  • Apply with a fluffy soft brush

First Impression: I’ve said it many times, I’m not a real blush fan. I don’t go out looking for blush (because my cheeks are naturally really rosey) but I was so excited for this blush! I love the colours and how subtle it is. There is shimmer in it but it’s honestly not over whelming, defiantly a workable blush. I actually used the lighter gold shade as a highlight as well (not sure if you are suppose to or not) and it works really well which is great for me considering I don’t own any!

NYX Cosmetics Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Pink Lust

12903623_10205851503631084_1941369179_o

Product Description:  Doll up your lips with plush and vibrant color! NYX’s Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick glides on smooth and sets into a striking matte finish. Velvety soft and waterproof, this long-lasting lippie creates a positively polished look with every swipe.

  • Waterproof, liquid lipstick infused with avocado oil and Vitamin E
  • Super pigmented lipstick goes on opaque and dries to matte finish
  • Delivers long-wearing, vivid color in one creamy swipe

First Impression: For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to try NYX Cosmetics so when I saw this in the sneak peak, I was immediately excited! I really wanted the shade Soft Spoken but I am so pleased with Pink Lust! I love the formula of this cream lipstick however it does stain your lips so just be prepared for that. Pink Lust is very bright so if you aren’t a fan of bright colours this is not the colour for you however the cream lipsticks themselves are amazing. I loved them so much I actually went out and bought two more; Sway (lilac purple, very pretty) and Vintage (which is a beautiful maroon colour).

Overall Impression: Overall I am so pleased with my Ipsy bag this month! I wasn’t a big fan of the actual bag itself when I saw it but it’s slowly growing on me (it’s probably the biggest one too which is nice, more stuff!). This bag just reinforces my love for Ipsy!

So so Charming

Charming by The Balm is one of my favourite liquid lipsticks ever! The colour is a dusty rose and it very easy to apply. I myself use to be very skeptical of liquid lipsticks but after I received a sample of Committed by  The Balm in my October Ipsy bag I was sold. Charming is one of my favourite lip colours so far. It’s a good colour for day and night, it is a casual colour yet extremely striking. This colour really makes my lips pop yet it doesn’t make me feel like I’m over dressed.

After apply the lipstick I find that it has a minty, tingly feeling on my lips; right before it dries into this beautiful matte colour that lasts for at least 8 hours. A bit of the lipstick does come off on glasses but the colour removing from your lips isn’t noticeable at all.

Overall this product is one of my favourites and it is becoming an everyday lip colour for me.

My Skincare Products + Routine

Hey everyone! So I realized we have mainly talked only about makeup on this blog (I guess hence the name themakeupclubblog) but either way skincare is a huge part of my beauty routine so I figured I would show you what products I use and explain my routine!

Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water All-in-1 Makeup Remover &Cleaners ($6.96)

So this product is still relatively new to me and I’ve only used it a few times but I honestly love it! I didn’t know what it really was when I bought it b
ut the fact that it removes makeup without having to rinse it off after was a huge selling point for me. Basically you put the water on a cotton pad and simply wipe off your makeup; it removes everything! With one cotton pad I’m able to remove: foundation, concealer, setting powder, contour, mascara, eyeshadow and lipstick. That’s pretty impressive I’d say. What I love about this product is it’s very gentle on the skin.

12776860_10205693920131595_1939012708_o

St. Ives Even & Bright Pink Lemon & Mandarin Orange Scrub ($3.97)

I love St.Ives, they are my go to for face wash and scrubs so it’s no wonder that I had to try this as soon as I saw it! The smell is incredible and the scrub leaves my skin feeling smooth and clean.

Cetaphil DermaControl Moisturizer SPF 30 ($20.00 approx.)

I have combination skin and I get very oily around my nose and on my chin so finding a moisturizer that works well with hydrating my skin and not making it oily is very hard so when I came across this Cetaphil moisturizer a few years ago I was relieved. This moisturizer helps my skin stay smooth and hydrated without making my oily prone spots oily. It also has SPF which is a huge benefit.

12822970_10205693919931590_1231049696_o

Tucker Ashley Advanced Peptide Eye Complex – for dark circles & puffiness ($29.95)

I received this product in my Ipsy bag for January and have been using it periodically through out the past month and half. It’s on the more expensive side but it’s honestly amazing. I love the feel of this product and the consistency of it, it’s not runny and it’s not thick either.

The Body Shop Warming Mineral Mask (not sure of price)

I first tried this mask when Adrienne was over to my house and I love it! With just one use I was able to see my skin was brighter and less oily (thank god). I love the warming aspect of it (but don’t worry it doesn’t burn you or anything) and I love doing a mask on Fridays after a stressful week, it’s the best!

12823023_10205693920011592_1199840749_o

Routine:

AM: I don’t have much of a routine in the morning, I simply wash my face with my St. Ives facial scrub and apply my Cetaphil moisturizer and then apply my makeup for the day!

PM: Naturally the first thing I do is remove my makeup with my Garnier SkinActive Cleansing water and I follow that up with my St. Ives facial scrub to get rid of any left over oil or impurities. After I pat my face dry I apply my Cetaphil moisturizer followed by my eye cream (I realize you are suppose to apply eye cream morning and night but I honestly always forget to apply it in the morning!).

Weekly: I usually do at least 1 mask a week and currently I’m using The Body Shop’s Warming Mineral mask.

Favourites: February 2016

This month of February has come and gone (pretty sure I slept through most of it) and it’s that time for the monthly favourites! This month I haven’t really tried any new makeup products but that doesn’t mean I don’t have any favourites for you!

The Balm Cosmetics: Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Committed ($17.00)

I only have the sample size of this product (shout out to Sylvie for giving it to me) and I’m obsessed! I can’t wait to get my hands on the full size product. Ok so why do I love this liquid lipstick? It’s long lasting (as it says in the name) and the colour is amazing! I don’t normally buy any nude or light pink lip products10376503_10205692855064969_1092790893_o (I’m all about the dark or bright colours) but this colour is so beautiful, it is my go to lip colour when I don’t feel like blinding people with hot pinks or purples. Here’s a picture of me wearing Committed on my lips (ignore my brows, I know they are a mess. I promise I’m getting them done soon!).

BC Hairtherapy Repaire Rescue Sealed Ends ($20.00 approx.)

This is my favourite hair product I’ve ever had! I have quite long hair and I’ve been growing it out for a while and I honestly believe this product is one of the reasons I haven’t had to cut my hair for months (literally). This product is made to help keep your ends from splitting and breaking. I usually apply it to wet/ damp hair after towel drying my hair. I have found when I don’t use this product I can feel it as my hair isn’t as soft and doesn’t look as healthy. I’ve been using this product for about 2 years and I highly recommend it!

NYR Mineral Foundation in Light Cool ($42.00)

Ok I will be 100% honest, I have no idea where this product came from. I found it in my bathroom one day (I’m assuming it’s my mother’s from when she was visiting me back in January) but one day I couldn’t find my setting powder so I said “screw it” and used this to set my under eye concealer and I have used it every day since! It’s a really light weight foundation (obviously because it’s mineral) and it’s so beautiful. Now I have no idea what I’m going to do when this runs out because hello I’m in love with it. It doesn’t settle into my fine lines and helps keep my dark under eyes covered without being cakey. The only downfall is it’s £22.50 and that converted is about $42 CAD which is quite a lot but never the less this has been a favourite product of mine this month!

February Favourites

12776712_10153386787312647_1639167839_o.jpg

Luxie Beauty Flat Definer Brush 221: I received this makeup brush in my February ipsy bag, and I already own roughly 30 makeup brushes so it wasn’t like I needed the brush or anything, but it’s a great brush. This one specifically is for defined application, and cost $12.00 on their website, however you can purchase a set of 5 brushes for $45.00 on their website, as well. The bristles are extremely soft, and the brush itself is probably the prettiest brush I have ever owned and even looking at it makes me very happy. Also, the brushes I already owned cause a lot of static electricity when they come in contact with my hair, which the Luxie brushes don’t. AND, they’re cruelty free. #loveanimals

tea-tree-blemish-fade-night-lotion_l.jpg

Tea Tree Blemish Fade Night Lotion: I don’t have  a picture of this product, so I used a photo from The Body Shop’s website, which shows how often I use this product. Tea Tree is my favourite brand, so you’ll be seeing a lot of Tea Tree products form me with my favourites. This month, I’m writing about my absolute favourite product by them, the blemish fade night lotion. I’ve been buying this product for years. It’s a small bottle and costs $20.00 at The Body Shop, which can seem like a lot but it is so worth it. I apply it at night before bed and don’t wash it off until the next morning either when washing my face or showering. It cleans your pores overnight and diminishes the look of blemishes while you sleep! I don’t do anything extra other than one squirt or the lotion and rubbing it in (which feels great, by the way). The bottle will last me anywhere between 3 months- a year depending on how often I use it and how much I use per night.

Baléa 3 in 1 Cleansing Cloths: I like this product for similar reasons as to why I love the Tea Tree Lotion: because it’s easy to use with minimal effort. Whenever I go to a friends house or a friend comes to mine, I don’t really feel like going to the washroom and spending 10-20 minutes washing my face. What I do instead is grab a face wipe, and rub off all of my makeup using it. I replace washing my face with this product when washing just seems inconvenient. It’s also an eye makeup remover, so it works with taking off tough makeup, like mascara, eyeliner, and eyebrow products. It’s also very moisturizing and feels great when using it. The only downside is that it only comes with 15 wipes in a pack, so they don’t last long.

12822851_10153386787482647_479179019_o.jpg

CoverGirl Clean Sensitive Skin Pressed Powder: This is the pressed powder that I have been using almost my whole walk with makeup. The reason behind this is because it is so cheap and still works! It’s made for sensitive skin, so my skin is never irritated when using it. It also evens out skin tones and red spots if you’ve got any, and has a flawless finish that does not make me look like I’m covered in makeup and is in fact looks very natural. I buy it at Walmart for $6.97 and one compact can last for 6 months- 1 year. As you can see in the picture, it’s time for me to get a new one. I literally use this product every day, because it looks so natural. Putting it on does not agree to a commitment of applying a whole face worth of makeup, because it blends right in.
